Picspam: Waikiki (The one time I got out of the hotel)

All my photo plans in Maui were completely ruined when I ended up sick in Oahu - Waikiki specifically. I've been there... more times than I can count and found that it wasn't a bad place to be sick in, especially when you're familiar with the area. I spent four days laid up in a hotel room and finally managed, on the last day, to get out of the room and take a stroll with my camera. I only spent about two hours at the beach - enough time to enjoy the sunset before heading back to the room to crash.

As annoying as I find Waikiki, it has been a good source of photos and I did get a few good ones. Silver linings right?

Awww, your pics remind me of my trip to Waikiki with my soccer team. We'd play on the fields at the foot of Diamond Head and then run across the street to the beach, tearing off our uniforms (we strategically wore our bathing suits underneath). I think we spent WAY more time the beach rather than the actual tournament we were really there for. We bought a shit ton of inflatable inner tubes, paddled out a-ways, linked arms and chilled out there for hours.

After my team left, I stayed an extra week with my parents in the Royal Hawaiian. PINK FTW.

I'm sorry you had such a crappy time, but your photos are making me all nostalgic. I NEED TO GET BACK TO HAWAII. I can't remember when the last time I was there. Maybe high school?

These are all great photos, but the action and angles in the first shot are especially terrific. And I suppose if you're going to have to be laid up sick somewhere, being laid up where it's nice and warm out, and you can at least get some sun on your face, is better than being stuck indoors in crappy winter weather.

Thanks! I would have been so disappointed if I'd just stayed in the hotel the entire time. I at least got to enjoy SOME of Hawaii and also had a friend who lives there come see me so there was some form of silver lining.

Thanks! I'm really pleased with the first shot. It was the right combination of time, place and people doing dumb things.

I'm really fortunate I ended up sick in Hawaii. We'd started that flight in Calgary, Canada and while I'm sure it's a beautiful city... it was really cold and you needed a car to go anywhere. I'd much rather get sick somewhere warm and walkable. So yeah, could have been much worse!
