Flight Attendant Requirements

I'm blaming my lack of posting on general exhaustion. Not much of an excuse... but it's my excuse :)

Anyhoo, I visited the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in April and took in the exhibit they had on Flight Attendants... oh wait. Stewardesses.

I'm so glad the requirements have changed since the "Golden Age of flight"

135 pounds maximum
Female
Attractive,"Just below Hollywood standards"
Height and weight in proportion,
Single women only, not married, divorced or widowed
Plenty of personality and poise
Registered nurse or two years of college

General exhaustion is always a good reason not to post. Heck, it's the reason I tend to use. Hence, why it's a good one. ;)

It really was. It's more a permanent display in the Commercial Aviation section but the uniforms and information was extremely fascinating (If a bit horrifying at times). Especially to someone who works in the industry.

(Dang, I need to get back to the Smithsonian. Not just because the A&S Museum roxx0rz my s0xxorz, but because the National Museum of the American Indian was still under construction last time I was there¹, and I have heard interesting things about it.

Tickets down to DC on the Megabus cost me $30 roundtrip. It is totally doable! :)

I had every intention of seeing that museum but alas, my plans were foiled due to time constraints. The last time I was in DC I was 14 and not old enough to appreciate what I was seeing so I had to go see the museums I'd already seen in order to properly appreciate them. (They have pretty planes and I had to drool over them)

Someday I'll see the rest! (I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!)

LOL, I still cringe when I'm called stewardess. Plus the fact I'm over 26 and not really "Just below Hollywood standards" HA!

Things have improved but just last month someone complained that we spend to much time on safety and not enough time looking cute and making him happy.

I don't care for the term either. It doesn't really annoy me but I think it says more about the people who still use it than those who it's being applied too.

My company, because it's a charter, has stricter PA standards than most of the legacy carriers. I once had a supervisor mark me down on an evaluation because my makeup "wasn't bright enough" and this was at the tail end of a JFK-Georgetown, Guyana turn. Needless to say I don't really pay much attention to her anymore.

In the event of an emergency, he'll be grateful for all that safety training and won't care that you aren't rocking the "Hollywood standards" (because really, who in this day and age can?)
