For some reason I'm really dreading the new episodes of SG1 and Atlantis. I'm really not sure why, but I'm actually pretty damn happy I'll be in Nigeria when they air.

I've got a lot of image posts that I need to get around too: pics for Baltimore, Ghana and Colorado but I have to go through the images first *groans*

So, huge image posts tomorrow after I get back from Training *more groans*

Or actually, it's Grenada as seen from the back ass of the plane.

Grenada

It looks like an absolutely beautiful island. I'd love to visit it someday and actually get off the plane.

And just for fun, this is what I traded my car in for. One of the best things I ever did...

The 6 Train

I hardly ever see this train empty. I love the weird hours I work.

Also, LJ is taking talk like a pirate day far too seriously...

Dude, I got a review for Must Be Bunnies in Pirate Slang, and I have NO idea what the heck it says.

And could you be dreading the new episodes because the next ones we get is in March, and that's a danged long time away...most of the shows will be mostly over their season by the time we get ours back.

PotC has created a monster.

I think that's a big part of it. I know that episode is going to leave me pissed off (because episodes with ancients being giant pricks typically do that) and waiting till March isn't going to help (seriously? March? that's 6 months away. wtf? Please tell me you're kidding)

PotC really, really did. I wasn't even overly impressed with the movie.

And yeah, of course it will piss you off, especially a six month break. Skiffy at it's best! You missed the announcement at ComicCon? Yep, they're doing some shit about year round programming. Personally, I think it's because they want to give BSG the chance to shine at the expense of shows already the middle in a season.

I liked it, but then again my expectations were low. It helps.

I'm really hoping that Canada won't have the same air schedule (they didn't last year) because I am so downloading the episodes off the internet if that's the case because seriously, Skiffy sucks rotten eggs through a straw. Every time I think they can't sink any lower they do. And I know Battlestar Galactica is OMG good and all that (even though it will suck your soul out) but I'll still take SGA over BSG. Thanks a lot for nothing Skiffy! *shakes fist angrily*

I had low ones too. I just didn't find it very entertaining.

I don't think they will. I think it's just good ol' Skiffy being a douchebag. *grins* Did you miss my rant on my last Friday commentary? Go read that so I won't repeat myself, but that'll explain why I won't watch it, even if I wanted too. SGA and SG-1, man I like those. Not so much with the BSG. I actively avoided the channel today until the marathon was over.

It would have been better if there had been an actual ending.

Skiffy continues to astound. I find myself looking back fondly on the years that I actively shunned Skiffy. And I know the Scifi Channel really doesn't exist in Canada, and last year the airing schedule there was compeletely off the one here. And I missed that commentary. I was in the backwoods of Colorado and was lucky to have cable. Internet was a bit beyond me. I shall have to go and read.

I only watched BSG because a certain friend considered it a travesty that I didn't watch so bought me the DVD's. It was good and my main reason for continuing to watch is the pretty that is Apollo (also, Starbuck is really cool) but mainly Apollo is pretty. Yes, I am shallow :)

Yes, that's very true. It was majorly lacking in one.

Skiffy is very astounding. Just google it, a lot of people were unhappy with that schedule. I envy the Canadians then. No Skiffy. Seriously, this crap gets old pretty quick. The commentary was great. I know it was on GateWorld. And wow did it piss me off. I really think part of the problem was it was their way of punishing SG-1 because they have the emotional range of a teaspoon (ten points if you get that).

I was willing to give BSG a chance until I heard the actors being asses. Seriously, not the best way to make me a fan. And yeah, that and Skiffy's bombardment of commericals and endorsement kinda back fired on them. Makes me not watch it for the whole wide world. Shallow's good. I watched Supernatural cause of the pretty, certainly not the weak plot.

I know many many people who refuse to watch Skiffy because of all the dumbshit they've pulled. One friend was pissed off that the only way she could get her Doctor Who was off skiffy (thankfully Doctor Who is owned by the BBC so is not subject to Skiffy's idiocy). I really don't get the referen ce, but I'll completely agree with the sentiment. It's kinda reminding me of Farscape and the whole emotional vindictiveness that went along with it (When Farscape was cancelled it was their number 2 show after SG1) Actually, now that I think of it, this is a really weird turn around considering how coddled SG1 used to be.

I don't pay attention to actors or what goes on behind he scenes. I'm generally completely oblivious to that type of stuff and I love it that way. so much less stress and aggravation on my part. Life is so much easier when you make your decisons based on shallow motivations *g* From what I've heard of Supernatural, the only reason to watch it is for the pretty.

They really, really pull stupid shit. They must have gone to the Levin School of Network Execution. (He cancelled Angel when it was their highest rated show, moron. And he lost Buffy.) It really is a emotional blackmail, a "I'll keep you watchign my channel by holding your favorites hostage" type approach, which honestly is a third grade knee jerk reaction. Skiffy seems to like the shows, but doesn't want to keep them...would rather obtain the next big thing. Because they're stupid. After the Gates are off the channel, I'll leave. No quibbles with it. (The teaspoon reference was a Harry Potter one.)

Well, the actors were at a panel at Dragon Con, so that's why I was exposed, and I had heard the same type ideas had been spoken at ComicCon, though I can't say since I wasn't there. It was a BSG panel, which I was only at because it was right before the Nick Brendon one and I wanted good seats. I wasn't paying much attention, but I heard that and it annoyed me greatly. And SPN is only for the pretty, trust me. Jensen Ackles is reason enough.

Skiffy seems to like to get shows after they've been cancelled and never quite realizes what they had or how big their fanbase is (or was) until after they've screwed up big time. Scifi could really go places and make themself into something amazing if they weren't so amazingly idiotic. I'm convinced that putting 3 years olds in charge would result in a smarter upper management. Why oh why must my favorite shows air on Skiffy? It doesn't treat them right *pets and cuddles SGA*

Ah yes, teaspoons. Harry Potter. Those crazy british.

I think I'll pass, but from all the smitten fans I've run into lately I'll take your word on it.

Apparently they do like the cancelled shows (Night Stalker anyone?). They are so out of touch with their audience that it's pitiful. They refuse to realize what they have. I really do think the channel is nothing more than a money maker, given the way they keep screwing up their programming (wrestling? wtf?). I think they missed that whole niche they have. It really annoys me and pisses me off, the way they treat their shows. It's like they have no sense of...self-preservation.

*laugh* Yes, those crazy British. I think it was Hermione about Ron, but don't quote me. Been a few years since I read them.

Well, I just watch it for the pretty shirtless former model Jensen. Purely shallow. Oh, yeah. But guh.

Yes. Wrestling. Why is there wrestling on the Scifi Channel?!? I do not understand. I know that their primary audience is made up of geeks, but very few geeks I know are also passionate about wrestling so I do not see how their current programing is going to help them. I just don't get it. Are they trying to drive away their fanbase? Is this some desperate attempt to commit network suicide because with the crappy programming they've got going on - I wouldn't be suprised. If they would just pamper and promote the shows that have really put them on the map (Farscape, the Stargates and now Eureka) they could REALLY go places. But apparently wrestling is what does it for them *boggles* Does anyone else get the impression that they secretly want to be UPN?

I haven't touched the books since number 6 came out. All the teenage angst and snogging did me in.

That was the reason I went to go see the newest Superman movie. For the pretty. And feel free to wallow in the shallow. Shirtless former models are always a thing of happiness and light - amongst other things.

The Wrestling thing baffles me. It really does. It makes no sense, whatsoever. Science Fiction/Fantasy and Fake Acting...hmm, one doesn't belong ro the other. Very few geeks I know even watch it. Hell, I stopped when I was 10. That's 15 years, folks. I do think they want to drive away the fanbase and rebuild the channel, maybe change the name and idea of the station. To me at least, they're doing it in an effort to be more "hip and modern" but what they fall to realize that most of our generation was raised on sci-fi type shows (hello, paging Buffy Generation to the courtesy desk). I wonder, has NBC always owned it or was it a fairly recent acquistion. I think they might have something to do with it, too. I think they want to be a younger, edgier channel without really *thinking* about the fact it's the only station of it's kind. That *should* be a goldmine of money and ratings. Somehow that seems to be lost. Idiots.

I haven't touched the last 300 pages of that godawful book. I gave up. Even the books on tape put me to sleep.

Yes, he is very, very, very pretty. I remember when he was Eric on Days. *thud* Meeting him was great, but I had a fever so I zipped through the line so I didn't get him sick.

NBC owns Scifi? That explains a lot... All I can figure out about networks is that it's kinda like being a politician: You get drunk on power and loose touch with your constituency and do really dumb things as a result. Like deciding that the perfect program for a scifi channel is wrestling. And yes, they need to mine the Buffy generation. We're all ready and willing to sign up and they keep screwing us all over. Hell, they'd be better off rerunning the old scifi shows (original Star Trek, Quantum Leap, V) rather then Wrestling. They really do forget sometimes that they are the SCIFI channel.

You didn't miss much, trust me.

This is really sad, but I've never even seen what this Supernatural Stud looks like.

Oy Vey *looks at clock* I must crash. I have to go to training tomorrow. Uggggg.

You didn't know that? It's parent company is NBC-Universal. Explains that BSG special too, doesn't it? According to Wiki, here's the basic timeline:

The channel was launched on September 24, 1992 as a sister cable channel to USA Network by then-owners Paramount Pictures (which was later acquired by Viacom in 1994) and MCA (then part of Japanese electronic giant Matsushita), the owner of Universal Studios, each with a 50% stake in the venture.

The channel was seen as a natural fit with classic film and television series that both studios had in their vaults, including Paramount's Star Trek and classic Universal horror films such as Dracula and Frankenstein. Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and author Isaac Asimov were among those on the advisory board.

In 1997, Seagram, which bought MCA in 1995, purchased Viacom's interest in USA and Sci Fi, and sold the networks to Barry Diller in 1998 to form USA Networks, Inc. Diller later sold USA's non-shopping (film and TV) assets, including Sci-Fi, to Universal's then-parent Vivendi Universal in 2002. Vivendi's film, television, and cable TV assets were then merged with General Electric's NBC to form NBC Universal in 2004.

That explains so much, like why it's trying to be USA Jr with the wrestling. Granted, I don't put much stock into Wiki, but I'm too lazy to do a major research. That'll give you the background though. It also explains why the programming has greatly varied over the years, and why they lost touch of the audience happened. It's just been gobbled up basically.

The Buffy Generation is that golden target audience, too. We're the 18-34 age group, and if they'd pay attention they could have a very lucrative profit. But as usual, they've fallen into the Reality TV pit. I honestly am over it. I watch 3 a year. Wow, three whole programs out of how many hundreds reality based ones? That says a lot to me. It tells me that I'm tired of them and want my on purpose scripted shows back. That's why I like SG-1 and SGA. They're like primetime soaps, without so many hookups. But it's got the Dallas and Knots Landing feel of drama and "what's gonna happen next" but evolved with the times. *shakes head* I don't want another reality show or wrestling on a channel meant for a certain niche. It doesn't feel...right.

Oh, I'm aware. I'm glad DD died, personally. Didn't like him much in the books. In the first two movies, loved him. Didn't like the new guy either.

(Random but "Beyond The Night" keeps reminding me of Gordon Lightfoot's Fitzgerald song.)

Jensen Ackles. He's been on Days (Eric Brady), Dark Angel (Ben & Alec), Smallville (Teague), SPN (Dean Winchester). (I won't tell you how long I looked for a pic that was decent and wasn't on Myspace or Xanga.)

Sleep is good...for you. *goes off to weep at the lack of really, really good Vala fic*

I have a friend who used to live in Grenada. I was glad when she came back, but man it would have been cool to go down and visit her!
