Torchwood!!
Oct. 22nd, 2006 11:44 amI was totally unspoiled for Torchwood, besides the fact that I knew the whole premise of it, but I figured they would do interesting things seeing as how they were more "adult". I really wasn't expecting an orgasm alien though, but considering that it is Captain Jack (Squee!) I really shouldn't have been too surprised by that choice. Might as well get the shock over with quickly.
When Jack and Gwen were in the alley where Cary's got possessed... did anyone else notice the pair of legs sticking up out of the dumpster behind them? What was that all about?
I was rather amused when Gwen was quizing everyone about their lives outside of Torchwood. When she asked them what they did to unwind I couldn't help but think the answer was orgies (It is Captain Jack people!)
The Doctor's hand thing and Jack... that was bizarre and a little creepy. I know he misses that part of his life and has questions, but it's still kinda... um, well weird? And kinda icky too (but then again my gore tolerance is really really low)
Please no more exploding rats. My low gore tolerance can't take it. eeeeewwww. It was like the scene in Taken where they made a Hamster explode in the microwave. *shudders*
Jack has special kisses. Hee! What did Rose do? Imbue him with super-amorous-love strength? jeez.
Also, what is with this actress and playing roles where she actually wants to be possessed?
There is an awful lot of kissing in this show.
I don't know why I'm surprised by a lot of this stuff. I really shouldn't be. When they mentioned adult and Jack Harkness in the same sentence I should have known what was coming. Also, it's British TV, their version of adult is a lot different then the American version of adult. I travel enough that I should know this and yet here I am being all surprised.
Overall, I really liked it. I was kinda surprised by it, even though I shouldn't have been, but for a first episode it was really nice. I did like that they started with Jack Harkness already in charge of Torchwood. Since I was unspoiled, I had assumed that the first ep would start with Gwen already in Torchwood and deal with Jack becomming it's leader. Or at least, showing how Jack came to earth and got roped into the job. I like that they kept the mystery of it. For people who have never watched Doctor Who and aren't familiar with the character you don't need a lot of backstory and the elements that related to Doctor Who aren't overwhelming (like the hand and the kiss-powers) it just adds to the mystery. I also like how we're finding out about Torchwood and Jack through Gwen. She's the new girl and so are we so it's nice to be introduced to the show and the characters through a character that's finding out about along with the rest of the audience.
I can't wait to see a Doctor Who/Torchwood crossover seeing as how Jack is still missing the Doctor and probably has a bunch of questions about a whole hell of a lot of thing.
A few more random thoughts:
The guy that got left nekkid in the cell, I forget his name, but he has a lopsided mmouth and it's very distracting. I keep looking at it thinking 'dude, it's not on straight!'
I like the whole Jack speculation thing. Where did he come from? what's his history? I was sitting there grinning because I know something they don't. Although with Jack, we sure don't know much more then they do.
The audio on my avi file was crap. It wasn't syncing up right with their lips. It was just off a little bit but I could tell and I missed some dialogue simply because I was too fixated on watching their mouths not say the words right. I hate it when that happens.
All in all, I shall be tuning in, or downloading as the case may be. Next week.
