The Columbian Mammoth

I draw when I watch TV shows. I can't help it, just sitting there... watching... it makes me feel unproductive. So I scribble away in my journals whilst camped out in front of my tv or comp. So yes *mumbles* I'm putting my College Degree to good use... or something.

ANYHOW. I mainlined the last two episodes of Reaper as well as the last episodes of Life, Bionic Woman, Men in Trees and Stargate Atlantis (Holy Crap, I hated that ep of SGA) tonight and broke out my Rapidographs and went to town on a travel journal I've been working on.

This will be familiar to regala_electra, but to everyone else this is an absolutely lovely and beautiful and spectacular Columbian Mammoth the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits had set up. I couldn't help but immortalize it in my journal in pen and ink (see, putting the BFA to good use... If I say it enough I may start to believe it.)

But yes, I present my lovely little doodle:



Oh yes, The Boy is on his way back to Afghanistan today. I am quite sad. Blah

Update: MOTHERFUCKING scheduling. They just took me off a trip that had a 28 hour layover in BELIZE and they're sending me to Kuwait instead. Goddamnit.

I loved them SO MUCH. It was the one place in LA I absolutely totally and completely had to see. Which I did, and it was wonderful.

Everyone else goes to Hollywood Blvd, I went to the Tar Pits. *le sigh*

Oddly enough those were the only two things Reg and I visited whilst in LA. I highly approved of both.

Hee! Thanks for the offer but I think he's kinda happy to be going back. It's weird and I don't quite get it but he has his boys and he loves his job. I told him to go have fun blowing shit up. (They escort the EOD - explosive ordinance disposal - quite a bit)

It really is. Especially when you have to give a couple days for recouping over the time differences, and the lack of sand and crusty dirt as far as the eye can see.

That is GORGEOUS! Dude, your drawing skills are beyond amazing. As a side note, I went to the La Brea Tar Pits back in '05 on my senior trip! Interesting smell.

Thanks! To be fair, I based it off a photograph but I'm quite pleased with how he came out. I sometimes forget how enjoyable it is to plan out a drawing and then execute it. *happy sigh*

Interesting place! I'll agree with you on the smell for the simple fact that it's tar and asphalt but I've been blessed with a shitty sense of smell so I'll take your word on it :)

I hear ya. I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with them pleading my case but alas, I'm still going to Kuwait. I've been doing the Germany-Kuwait routes for the past 4 months and I'm dying to go somewhere else so the England-Belize thing was looking like a breath of fresh air.

Too bad it was only a tease. *shakes fist angrily*

Lol! Thank you. It's been awhile since I've drawn anything. Corporate America sucked my creative energy dry and it's just now coming back. I'm glad you liked my drawing, I'll have to post more in the future *g*

I've watched my brother and friends go over before, but none of them were so 'in the face of danger' like this guy is. I had to refrain from launching into the 'please act like a grown up/don't do anything stupid/safety first' speach that makes their eyes glaze over. I've told him that when he comes back I'll go on another date with him so I'm hoping thats enough incentive *g*
