Jun. 28th, 2008 09:19 pmI ended up in Thailand a few weeks ago. It was a complete and total fluke. I was supposed to spend my layover in Germany but my company felt that my time was better spent in the lovely country of Thailand.
They got absolutely no complaints out of me.
The only issues came up when we discovered that they had reserved rooms for us at the airport hotel in Bangkok (or should I say 45 minutes outside of Bangkok and surrounded by absolutely nothing). This would not do.
I ended up being the lucky duck who got to unravel our unfortunate hotel situation. Multiple calls later from Germany and Qatar and we finally convinced them to let us stay with the pilots in a little place called Pattaya, an hour and a half east of Bangkok, in the Hard Rock Hotel.

Elephants Yay! I was very excited. When I was younger and would visit the zoo my parents always made me take the camel ride because the line for the elephants was too long. Finally I overcame my parents evil ways!

The first part of our trip included wading. Riding an elephant is just so handy.

This lovely lady was the Queen of sneak attacks. There you would be, sitting high and mighty atop your elephant and she'd sneak up behind you in search of Banana's. She got trunk slobber all over my new watch and it was quite the experience fending off a hungry elephant from stealing all my banana's (which I was saving for the lovely lady who gave me the ride).

Everytime I see this picture, the theme from Jaws runs through my head. Although, she's not after sweet, succulent human flesh. She just wants a banana.

I was the odd one out so ended up with my own elephant. I was broken up about this, as you can tell.

The pictures my coworkers took with the elephants all show them standing slightly away from the giant creatures looking somewhat nervous. Obviously, I didn't have that problem.

Monkey! Sort of, technically he's an ape. But yes, this is Tony the Gibbon. 4 years old, still a juvenile and the sweetest, softest most cuddly little thing you will ever encounter. He was just hanging around watching everyone and out of all the people that tried to coax him down, he apparently took a liking to me.

He has a bit of a thumbsucking problem. Me? I had a bit of the dying of cute problem...

The little wretch made off with my hat...

Tony's idea of a good time was having a human swing him around. He couldn't get enough of it.

Our ride back to base. Very modern no? There were four ox carts and halfway there we ended up in a bit of an ox cart race. Out team won, but I attribute our winning to my coworker... who screams. The louder she screamed the faster the driver made the ox cart go. The winning was good, the going deaf part... not so much.

Back at the Elephant Village, lunch was served along with a bit of a show. Dancers, kick boxers, sword fighters... Good times.

And the sword fighting... And then they made me sword fight. I sucked at it.
There are no pictures of the bug eating and thankfully there are absolutely NO pictures of the sex show. I wouldn't want to corrupt innocent minds (I'm looking at you
regala_electra, my most vanilla friend!)
As always, all of my photos can be found at my Flickr site

Date: 2008-06-29 04:07 am (UTC)Sounds like you had a great time. And...there really aren't any innocent minds here to corrupt so if you want to share DETAILS on the show, I wouldn't mind at all. ;-)
