Having weathered a hurricane and still not having electricity, my mother wasted no time in coming to stay with me for a few days.
One of those evenings she was here, I took her out to dinner.

Whenever I have people visit, I try to take them to at least one posh place. This place would be the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center at the top of NBC studios. Fantastic food, but the view is the best part.

Date: 2008-09-25 01:37 am (UTC)I love Anthony Bourdain, but in this case I'm grateful I haven't read his book. *g* Really, I only go there for the view.

Date: 2008-09-25 03:42 pm (UTC)We've discovered that you don't need reservations just to sit in the bar - and the view is just as spectacular. From the table in the left front corner, you have a view of the Empire State plus the Chrysler Building.
So how was the food? *is curious*

Date: 2008-09-25 03:51 pm (UTC)This was a pre-Broadway theater meal so I made reservations just so we wouldn't have to deal with waiting. And I did miss having the Chrysler building in view when I was there, at is is, in my opinion the best looking building NYC has.
The food was good, I've had better, but really I just come here for the view. It's a great place to bring out of town guests and give them that whole New York Experience. *g* And honestly, I only ever suggest this place when I know I'm not paying...

Date: 2008-09-25 04:15 pm (UTC)Y'know, the only other place I can think of off the top of my head for an awesome view is a little place at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge... I think it's called the 'Riverside Cafe' or something like that. The view of the entire Manhattan skyline *with* the bridge in the foreground is spectacular, and the food is pretty good, too.

Date: 2008-09-25 04:41 pm (UTC)I will have to check that out. I have only ever made it halfway across the Brooklyn Bridge. In my defense though, I'd walked from Union Square to Battery Park, back up to Spring Street and then down Bowery to the Bridge. My feet were screaming bloody murder by that point *G*

Date: 2008-09-25 03:59 pm (UTC)It was breathtaking up there. And only 5 floors below the Top of the Rock which is the viewing platform on top of NBC studios.
And honestly, I'm just jealous you've been to Malaysia. *g*
